reality blogging

by trolly @ 22 Jul. 2006 - 07:49:29

i was intruiged to happen upon the reality blurred blog, which is a great, critical blog about reality TV. the author, Andy Dehnart defines reality TV as, 'dramatic, soap-opera like TV show that follows real people in real or artificial contexts for a period of time'. he's interested in how the boundary between what is real and fake is increasingly being blurred.

okay that's TV, what, i wonder about blogging?

any of you out there fakin' it? or is this for real?

;)

like really?

Well I am real (I think!) but choose to use blog to project a perspective. But the more one blogs, the more of reality sneaks out I find... :-/

When I started blogging my posts were written in a form of code. You had to look below the surface to get the hidden message. This was because my wife would check the Blog and at the time I was very unhappy with the way that she had bullied me, by threatening to leave me, into renouncing a number of things which were really central to me. I felt completely emasculated and was unable and unwilling to talk openly to her.
So you had to sort of know that when I wrote about the Glossops and how appalling they were that I was in fact writing about my In Laws and the fairy Stories were about our marriage e.t.c
I guess my wife would put my blogging down as one of the final straws in the breakup of our marriage though ironically I was offering her massive support at the time as she had got herself into very hot water on the Counselling course she had undertaken.
Blaming Blogging though would be to mistake symptoms for causes. Would I have blogged if I felt more accepted and valued by her?
I do write more openly now though still feel the need to be cautious sometimes.
However I am timsuzi. I am a transvestite, I do enjoy spanking, I am playful, creative, mischievous and I love above all else my children. So in that respect what you read on the Blog is me, or at least a very significant part of me that I really value.

thanks, timzusi; blogging, for me, as i have said elsewhere, is primarily a creative outlet, and the opportunity to make connections (albeit mainly tenous), and have some fun.

but it interests me how people present themselves online - there's something playful in this, which as adults we do not normally, or only rarely, indulge in.

i think you are a very much real and open in your blog...but i love the idea of a secret garden: it's just a little hypnotic and somewhere, possibly, to be naughty....

I find the double-identity of blogging interesting: on one hand is my chance to be really myself, get everything off my chest. But on the other hand, I don't write everything that happens to me. I choose what to write, thus i present a certain image, that perhaps becomes another mask.

i agree. and necessarily selective: it's interesting to see what gets response: images hardly any...
