i made a cake today, but a curious cake indeed with no flour or butter, just eggs, sugar and almonds, with pears that had been poached in sugar and lemon juice...
it was very tasty.
very tasty indeed.
and gluten-free too.

Long time since I have made this, and it is very delicious indeed, I tend to use apricots instead of pears.
;-)
it would be good with apricots too, but pears with a slight lemon thing going on was just delicious. i've been spending too much time in hospital waiting rooms recently, and picked up this recipe from an old sainsburys magazine, but had to do an internet search when i got home for something similar. jamie oliver also had a flour-free nut and chocolate cake recipe up at his site, but this has gone now - from memory it had rather a lot of 70% choccie and cocoa and no fruit...at all, though delicious with a handful of redcurrants...

I used to make something similar without fruit. I think it was from Austrian recipe. Was gorgeous with Nutella type topping - mmmmmmmm
oh, i've heard about this cake, i think... i read this article a while ago now, which was all about this cake and one woman's lifetime quest to go to Vienna and actually eat it there...but i couldn't find a recipe for it. it's is the most intense chocolate cake ever?
cake as lifetime mission: a woman after my own heart!
